In 2000, the Port Authority signed a contract with Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) for the supply of 28 new LRVs and to refurbish the existing 40 Siemens LRV's. Both the new vehicles and the refurbished ones are bidireccional consisting of 2 cars, similar to the existing ones and compatible with them.
