This is an all-time roster of vehicles acquired and operated by the Port Authority of Allegheny County since public ownership in 1964. This does not include vehicles such as company cars, work trucks, lines cars, etc. I have put them here according to fleet number, not years built. Also, below the roster are some interesting notes.

Silver color denotes retired vehicles, yellow is still active. Red denotes re-habbed vehicles.

Some interesting notes...

All 2290 series Orions had Detroit Series 50 engines. Orions 2120 – 2124 are CNG buses. 2211, 2074, and 2275 also have the series 50 engines.

NovaBus 2600 – 2699 were in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta GA. Coach 2600 was wrecked there, and replaced very fast by Novabus. It had things in it that are very unique.

Orions 2016, 2067, 2072, 2090 and 2111 were lost due to fires.

Information has it that we may also have the last Nova Bus Classic delivered in the USA.

Neoplan Low Floor 5019 Destroyed by fire.

TDH 2013 (1964) was replacement for original 2013 that was destroyed en route to Pittsburgh and the only GM-built bus to have a bus number match its serial number.

3101-3125 are the last Neoplan USA buses to be manufactured.

6108 and 6145 are equipped with a leather driver's seat.

New Flyer D60LFR coach 3309 was involved in the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse on Jan. 28 , 2022. Coach may be out of service forever.

Gillig Advantage Low Floor Notes...

5201–5365 (Detroit Series 50 / Allison 5 speed)
5401–5460 (Detroit Series 50 / ZF 5 speed)
5501–5590 (Cummins ISM / Voith 4 speed)
5600-5679 (Cummins ISL / Voith 4 speed)

Note: 5290 was damaged after a dump truck slammed into the vehicle as it was picking up passengers. It has since been rebuilt and repainted, to fit into the 55XX paint scheme.

There is a new fleet of 56XX buses with different color schemes as well. The Colors are Darker and Richer than previous 55XX spring Colors. The 56XX are more like Fall colors. On the 56XX the exhaust pipe is different than the standard pipe found on previous Port Authority buses with the exception of #5588 being the First gillig Low Floor to sport the New Style. 56XX buses are equipped with Diesel Particle Filters, L.E.D. interior lights, hand rail on driver-side wheel well, full glass doors, different flooring and many other smaller features.

Coach 6015 was involved in the infamous Pittsburgh Sinkhole in Pittsburgh on Oct. 28, 2019. It was repaired and placed back in service.

Neoplan 60-foot articulated notes...

3051–3075 (Detroit Series 50 / Allison B500R)
These busses have commuter seats like on the Metroliners, and are used on the 68J and 61C routes respectively

3101–3125 (Detroit Series 60 / Allison B500R)
These buses have regular, transit seating used on the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway, 71D, and occasionally, the 61A, 81B & 86B respectively

These are the last Neoplan USA buses ever manufactured.

The final active units were 3123 and 3124, operating on 12/7/19 and 12/8/19 along the old 96A route as a fan trip.

Differences between Flxible orders at Port Authority...

There were two distinct orders, one was the main order, which were buses 2300–2449 in 1993, then the option order, which covers all the rest.

The original order had the Luminator ODK installed in front of operator, mounted in the bulkhead. The option order had Luminator ODK mounted to the left of operator on the electrical access door.

The original order had vinyl blue seats with single forward-facing seats on the right side of the bus. No further buses vinyl seats or with single forward-facing seats were ordered. The option order marked the beginning of cloth seats and double, forward-facing seats becoming the standard throughout on Port Authority buses.

The original order had a Voith 3-speed transmission, while the option order had Allison 3-speed.

Various minor differences: the option order makes a whining sound that is not present in original order; the option order has transparent rear doors while the original order has glass on the top only; interior coach number font is different; the box behind the operator's seat on the option order is smaller, allowing the seat to slide back farther.

Originally ordered 150, but Flxible ceased operations, thus the gaps in the 1995 order.

2446 was destroyed when it rear-ended a parked 18-wheeler. 2550 and 2581 were destroyed when they crashed into each other in a January 1996 snowstorm on the East Busway. This accident resulted in the death of the operator of 2581, the termination of the operator of 2550 and many injuries, but no passengers died.

Other Notes...

Nova 2654 Wrecked, but it has been revived! In Blue!

Some of these wrecked buses can be found on the End of the Line Page.

Neoplan 3500 – 3864 were part of the Penn-Dot order for the whole state of Pennsylvania. They were affectionately known as "Pennliners". They are all retired now.

Siemens-Duewag AG Notes

Originally #4101-4155.

These cars have three floor-level, double-stream doors per side, and one low-level single-stream door opposite the operator's area at either end. This was necessitated by Pittsburgh's mix of high-platform stations and low-platform stops and can not be found on any other SD Model LRV by Siemens.

These Light Rail Vehicles were rebuilt in 2005 and 2006 by CAF.
